No matter where I am or who I strike up a conversation with, as soon as they find out that I am a make up artist and have been for over a decade (oh, I suddenly feel very old now) the question that I get asked the most is, “what is the best foundation out there?” and “do I need to buy expensive foundation?”. Well the bad news is that I don’t have an ultimate answer for you the best foundation out there, as foundations vary depending on you and your skin. What you need to do is ask yourself some questions about what you want your foundation to do to your skin; what coverage do you like? Heavy, medium or light. What type of skin do you have? Dry, oily, mature, combination. What type of finish do you want? Long lasting, matte, dewy, satin. So as you can imagine, with all of these questions there is o one ultimate best foundation answer for you! I do have really good news, there are so many amazing foundation out there to suit you and your skin. If you are budget conscious about your foundation then you do not need to spend a small fortune then here is round of of teh best lost cost foundations for different skin types and coverages!

Rimmel, Wake Me Up Foundation, €10.99

This has been around so long that it is a classic at this stage, with medium, long lasting coverage it is no wonder it has stayed one of our favourite for so long! Perfect for all skin types and last all day.

Sleek, Bare Skin Foundation, €9.99

This lightweight formula, give a dewy glow with minimal coverage, it suits anyone that wants some coverage but not cakey, heavy coverage.

NYX, Stay Matte Not Flat Foundation, €10.99

This is an excellent choice for anyone that has some oil or shine in their skin. This NYX Stay Matte Not Flat banishes shine but doesn’t dry out your skin! The coverage is medium.

Max Factor Whipped Creme Foundation, €12.99

This whipped, hydrated formula is perfect for anyone wanting a semi matte finish, this won't dry out your skin and it delivers a fresh-looking matte finish with a radiant glow. Apply with a duo fibre/ stipple brush for the best coverage.

Chanel, Nars, Clarins and Benefit – these are just a few of the international cosmetic brands that every Irish woman stockpiles into her beauty bag. Last week, I interviewed Suzie O’Neill, creator of AYU Make Up who illustrated to us that home grown, Irish beauty tools could be manufactured to equally as high a standard as their foreign counterparts so, what about make up itself?

Beauty on Board, Holiday essentials

t is, dare I say it officially summer season, which means one thing for us Irish folk; heading off to the airport to hop on a plane to catch some guaranteed actual sunshine, that we just are not likely to get here in Ireland. I personally love getting away but I hate being without all my beauty treats, which for me is make up, body lotions, perfumes, hair products, body mists, tan, mitts an the list goes on and on.
