It is, dare I say it officially summer season, which means one thing for us Irish folk; heading off to the airport to hop on a plane to catch some guaranteed actual sunshine, that we just are not likely to get here in Ireland. I personally love getting away but I hate being without all my beauty treats, which for me is make up, body lotions, perfumes, hair products, body mists, tan, mitts an the list goes on and on. Now, I definitely have a few favourites that I go back to always, but I love trying out new products, from new ranges we stock in Sculpt Studio, Letterkenny and also from items I get sent from brilliant brands. I do have a few holiday key products that I brought away with me recently that I just, couldn't be without. On own recent honeymoon these are the key pieces that I packed!
Paese Long Cover Fluid Foundation
For me, foundation is all about staying power while I am on holidays. It needs to sit tight with minimal fuss in applications for mr to be happy. I have found just that with this Paese Long Cover Fluid foundation. This has a medium coverage, which can be made heavier with a second application. The liquid foundation glides on and contains some powder that allows the shine to stay away and the foundation to last with minimal shine or movement.
Top Tip; I aways apply with a brush and powder it with Sculpt Powder for last ability.
Pease Long Cover Fluid €13.99 (packaging is slightly different now)
Powder is the key to setting your foundation and is especially need in a hot and sweaty climate. I use a translucent powder which has no colour and matched my skin, whether I am tanned or milk white. This Sculpt Cosmetics, Loose Powder in 001 is my go to for setting my foundation and keeping it there.
Top Tip; Always apply with a brush in a gentle motions to avoid moving your underneath foundation.
Sculpt Cosmetics Loose Powder €13.50
L'Oreal Absolute Repair Lipidium Masque
I used to be blonde, and when I say blonde I mean really blonde, a total bleach up, white blonde hair that needed done every 4 weeks or else it looked terrible black at my roots. I loved it at the time but the maintainance was hard work and the condition was, well absolutely atrocious. It would snap, break and fall out at the beep beep of my GHDs heating up! I am not a brunette but still have some blonde through the ends to bright my hair and I learned a few things along the way about treating damaged hair. My personal saviour was masques/ masks, that I left in, sometimes overnight to try to repair and soften my hair. This masque from L'Oreal Professional was the best that I found and I now use it once a month on my blonde/ damaged hair and it is my go to for holidays. The sun is so damaging and your hair need to be protected when it is exposed, much like you skin it will burn and get dried out, so it needs something to shield it. I wear this mask to do just that. When I am by the pool I wet my hair at apply this L'Oreal Absolute Repair Lipidium Masque to nourish and protect me hair from chlorine, it also can be worn for 10- 20 mins for a rapid blast of nourishment.
Top Tip; If I am in a rush I sometime use it as a conditioner and I really notice if I have not used it, my hair is more dry, coarse and knots easier! If I has to pack one thing then this would be it.
L'Oreal Professional Absolute Repair Lipidium Masque €14.00 (before VAT of 23%)
Sleek Brow Kit in Dark
This is my saviour to fill out my brow while I'm in the heat. The kit has both brow powder and wax, alongside brushes and tweezers to allow youth go for either a heavy or less defined brow. While I am away I usually want to spend minimal time getting ready and more time doing things, even if that is just relaxing, so the was is my go to for last ability, the wax just did not budge until I cleansed. I am not usually into make up by the pool as I want to give my skin a break but who doesn't like a full brow while catching some rays!
Top Tip; Use the powder & wax at night for a fuller brow and wax during the day for lasting fullness and brow fill!
Sleek Brow Kit in Dark €10.49 (also available in light)
Sculpt Personal 7 Piece Brush Set
I usually apply my make up using 12-15 brushes, but when I am away I just don't have time for that many brushes and I always lose them, so that many brushes just don't make it onto my holiday list. So when I am away I use the Sculpt Cosmetics personal brush set, which contains 7 pro full sized brushes. Here I have everything that I need to create perfect looks- foundation, powder, blushes/highlight/contour, flat shadow, blender shadow, lip and small dome brush. Available in store or online at Sculpt Cosmetics or Sculpt Studio, 5 Oliver Plunkett Rd., Letterkenny.
Top Tip; wash brushes in lukewarm water and baby shampoo, then let air dry.
Sculpt Personal 7 Piece Brush Set €55

Well this Flawless Deluxe Brush Set, with 6 piece is amazing! for just €25 yogurt 6qiality, soft and durable brushes. Flawless Deluxe 6 Piece Brush Set €25
L'Oreal Mythic Oil
Another L'Oreal Professional treat, this leave in L'Oreal Mythic Oil acts as a softener and protector for tired, damaged hair. I rub it from mid to ends as my hair is damaged all that way, but you can rub it in just at the end if needed. The oil makes my hair feel a lot less damaged and looks healthier when styled. Especially need after a day in the pool.Ensure to really run the oil in as that way it works more effectively and make hair softer.
Top Tip; Always start with a small amount, €1 size work, and rub it in before adding more other wise too much can make hair look really greasy! Not a good holiday look!
L'Oreal Mythic Oil €12.99 (before 23% VAT)

Chanel, Nars, Clarins and Benefit – these are just a few of the international cosmetic brands that every Irish woman stockpiles into her beauty bag. Last week, I interviewed Suzie O’Neill, creator of AYU Make Up who illustrated to us that home grown, Irish beauty tools could be manufactured to equally as high a standard as their foreign counterparts so, what about make up itself?
